What exactly is involved in doing these Career Tests?

1) YOUR WORK STYLE PREFERENCES
Using a Quick and Easy Work Style Preferences Inventory, you will determine WHICH OF 6 TYPES OF WORK ENVIRONMENTS you would be most comfortable working in. (page 12)
Work Styles describe the work patterns you have developed a preference for in your early life. These tend to stay with us throughout our lives. And they point to the kind of work environment that is most agreeable to us.
You will choose Your Dominant Work Style
Plus two Supporting Work Style Preferences.
Fact: Those of us who love the work we do, tend to gather in certain occupations where the work environment is most condusive to a particular Work Style.
For example:
There is a certain Work Style preferred by those who work in the Construction Industry, that would not work in the Medical Profession.
Those who work in Sales have a Work Style that would not be conduisive to working in Computer Programming. They have a different set of preferences. And you'll find out what they are.
Artists have a Special Work Style that would be useless to Office Workers.
Believe it or not, all those Government Bureaucrats who love their jobs, have a distinct Work Style that allows them to thrive in that work environment - an environment which would drive someone like a Crane Operator crazy.
Is there any wonder why members of these professions sometimes have difficulty communicating with each other?

Using the Work Values Inventory, (page 27) you will select from 25 WORK VALUES, your Top 5 Work Values, and you will also identify Your 5 Lowest Work Values.
Why bother with your lowest work values?
- you need to know these to determine which jobs to avoid.
If you are unaware of your unique work values, you can end up in a job that is constantly irritating you, and not know why. For example . . .
Two Different Experiences of the Same Job
Susan's Experience
Susan and Jeff had two different reactions to the same job because of the difference in their Work Values.
They worked in The Archives - a windowless room in the basement of their office building, frequented by very few people.
Susan felt isolated, depressed and cramped by her surroundings. She had very little opportunity to meet people, socialize, or even to see the light of day. Every request for information was a nightmare of searching through endless shelves of dirty, dusty material.
She was never sure where anything was, and felt oppressed by the Requests for Information that were always piling up. She couldn't wait to get out of there, at the end of the day.
Jeff's Experience
Jeff, on the other hand, felt energized, intellectually stimulated, and loved the freedom to work on his own, without anyone supervising him. He couldn't wait to get to work each day.
He was super-organized and got tremendous personal satisfaction out of being able to fill any information request, in record time.
But most of all, he loved rummaging through, what he considered, deeply fascinating material, that few people had access to.
He planned to, one day, write a book, using his unique access to the material in the archives. He couldn't believe he was getting paid for this dream job.
Knowing your Work Values will give you a clear picture of exactly the kind of work you would do well in, and the kind you need to avoid.
- Who needs the aggravation of finding themselves in a job they hate?
- Avoid this pitfall. Get to know yourself, and your Work Values.
Once you know exactly the type of work that fits your Work Values, you are halfway to finding Your Dream Job.
3) YOUR PERSONALITY TYPE
The PERSONALITY TEST (p 38) has become the favorite test for many of my clients. Of 16 Personality Types, you will find the precise one that fits you.
Knowing "Your Type" will tell you how you make decisions, how you solve problems,
deal with stress, learn new things, balance your work/life, cope with change, as
well as your unique communication style.
Most people can't believe how accurate the description of their Personality
Type is. It's so much fun to do, that people want to do it with all their friends
and family, to find out what Personality Types they have too. (page 32)
When we look at personality, we are looking deep into ourselves and learning how
personality shapes our view of the world, and why we behave the way we do.
When you learn what's important to other personality types, and become familiar
with how they view the world, you begin to understand why certain types react
the way they do, and how your personality type needs to approach them, to
make sure you can get your point across.
This is very handy information to have access to on the job, if you are trying to communicate with someone who seems to be on a totally different wavelength.
Cracking the Personality Code
You have the edge, when you know the "Inner Workings" of other Personality Types. It's like having the inside track - the ‘Secret Code' that puts you in a win-win situation.
Everyone has a 4-Letter Code that you will soon be able to figure out, and use to your advantage, in getting along with anyone.
Hint: If you are having any relationship problems with co-workers, friends, or family, you will find the key to understanding what makes others tick, here in the Personality Test.
And Learning about your Personality Type will also tell you why certain aspects of your own life are easier, while others are a real struggle.
4) YOUR CENTRAL MOTIVATORS
Do you know that "every job" has built-in Motivators? These are triggers that tap into Your Personal Motivations, and make it easy for you to do the job.
The key is to find out what yours are, and then match them to a job that requires those motivators to succeed.
Find out what your Central Motivators are, so you can use them to your Best Advantage.
Here is an example of someone who is in a job that just doesn't seem to fit.
Can you figure out why?
Amahra is a natural at entertaining. She has loads of friends. At every party she is invited to, (and she is invited to many), she shines because of her natural charisma and personal charm.
After graduating with a degree in Business, Amahra went to work in her brother's Accounting firm. As the Office Administrator, she has brought in a strong client base, who are attracted to her confident and radiant personality.
But something is wrong. Amahra just doesn't feel motivated by most aspects of her job. She feels tied down, restless, haunted by a feeling of dissatisfaction.
She craves more involvement with people, being in the spotlight, which she doesn't find enough of in Office Administration. Can you see why she is so unhappy?
Her strongest motivations are barely being used in this job.
Perhaps you can already see possibilities for a more suitable line of work for Amahra.
Using the Central Motivators Inventory, (page 45) you will consider 22 CENTRAL MOTIVATORS and find out which ones are Your Hottest Motivators. Then, you will use this information to consciously select the type of Job or Career that is the Right one for you.
Makes sense doesn't it?
Why work in a job that doesn't allow you to use your own Natural Motivations?
If you do that you are only short-changing yourself.
Yet how many people are simply unaware of this!

on any of your natural motivators,

5) YOUR MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES
Do you remember "The Computer Geek" who had trouble scraping together a few pages for that Essay, the teacher assigned on - What you did on your summer vacation?
He's now a Systems Analyst - using his logical mind in the world of computer technology. And very happy, by the way.
Remember that tall gawky boy, who led the school team to victory for 3 years in a row. He always found someone willing to do his Math homework for him, didn't he? He was so good at sports, that he went to University on an athletic scholarship. He now teaches Phys Ed.
I recall the image of Tanya, a formidable debater, striking terror into the hearts of Debaters from competing schools. Even the teachers were no match for her. But the music teacher seemed to be somehow immune to her 'charms', as Tanya struggled to stay on key in Music Class. But who cares now if she sings off-key. Tanya is now a sought-after Trial Lawyer.
"Show and Tell" Day is still etched on my mind. When Daniel, who was painfully shy, and aware of the fact that he couldn't dance, brought his pet rabbit to class and suddenly became an expert, fielding questions on The Care and Feeding of Rabbits. That day, his class profile shot up miles, along with his self-confidence. He's now a Veterinarian.
What about drop-dead gorgeous Crystal, who constantly complained about having to do Math. She later became a top fashion model.
These are all examples of people who had a Different Set of Intelligences, than the ones that were being emphasized and taught in the School System.
WHAT ARE YOUR PREFERRED INTELLIGENCES?
There are now ten - yes, 10 Types of Intelligences that are being recognized as important in Our Development. Eight of them are starting to get some attention within the school system. (page 50)
The world needs all kinds of intelligences. Does it make any sense to focus on two or three, and penalize anyone for not being good in those?

Those are all true, but there's one really big way to know you've found "The Real Thing" and to answer that question, I have to tell you a Story . . .
My Story
My personal journey in search of my own Life Purpose, took me on a "long and winding road". After High School I went to University and got conjoint degrees in Education and Psychology.
I got my teacher certification and went off on a teaching career. Looking back, from where I am now in my Dream Career of Career Counseling, I wonder why I didn't put those two interests together: Teaching and Psychology and become a School Counselor, helping students to find their Passion.
It was so close - staring me in the face. As some say: "it was hiding in plain view". But I didn't see it. Parts of teaching were wonderful . . . the parts where I was helping kids find their way - the Counseling Part.
After 5 years I was restless. I liked teaching, but it wasn't enough. I wanted more. I needed more.
Instead, I went off in a different direction. It would take me another 15 years before I would find my way back to my first love.
I would take another degree. This time in search of a Deeper Connection with God, I worked in four churches. Again, I loved the Counseling aspect of it. So, you can see the thread was there.
But I just couldn't seem to see it, to put two and two together, so to speak. It was so frustrating!
You now know why I take that feeling of frustration, that I see in my clients, so seriously. I've been there, and I know exactly how it feels. And I know I can help them. And we stay with it until we reach a break through and find the answer.
It's that Important!
I moved on from Church work, and crossed the country . . . 5000 miles, still with that longing in my heart to find my "Passion", my Life's Purpose. It was driving me crazy. I was beginning to wonder if I'd ever find it.
I reasoned that "Not everyone finds their Dream Job".
I thought I was asking too much of life.
I rationalized that I should settle for something I liked, and not expect anything more.
I took a one year Computer Support Program with that same energy and hope that I had begun all the other careers. After graduating, I found myself back into teaching, this time, I was teaching adults as a Computer Instructor.
Guess what?
My students started to come to me asking for help in finding their Best Job Fit.
I felt very inadequate to help them. I thought of myself as a Computer Instructor, not a Career Counselor. Here I was again, faced with the same combination, Teaching and Counseling.
Wouldn't you think I'd finally get it?
My students persisted. They needed guidance in finding their niche in the workplace.
After some time, struggling with my inadequate efforts to help them, I came across another program that I could study while working, and I embarked on the study of Counseling Psychology with a major in Career Counseling.
The first day in this program, my heart was singing. Soon I was so happy, I was glowing. I couldn't believe how right it felt.
I remember thinking: "So this is what it feels like to be in the Right Field of Work."
It was a long and frustrating road that I took to finally arrive, but I can truly say, that when you find the work you love, Time does stand still.
By that I mean, you lose track of time, because you are so immersed in doing work that you love.
Which brings me back to the original question . . .
How do you know when you've found it .. your Dream Job?
The Answer is . . .
Time seems to stand still when you are doing the work you love . . . because you are truly present and living in the moment.
Rather than feeling frantic and worried, you feel peaceful and relaxed. Because you know in your heart, that if you died tomorrow, you would have no regrets. You are living what you came here to do.
Each one of us needs to know what that "special something" is, that is our gift to others - that is a unique expression of who we are. It can be a hobby, a skill or an area of interest that has always fascinated you.
Renowned Spiritual Writer and Medical Doctor Deepak Chopra put it this way.
"Each of us manifests in physical form to fulfill a unique purpose . . . And it's up to each of us to find out what that purpose is."
He says that we all have a unique talent or gift, which we are here to use in the service of others.
